Fitness

brain, brain pathways, adhd, exercise, fitness, natural drug, stimulate, stimulates, natural, nature, treatment, strategy, toolI know how important it is for my family to incorporate fitness into their lifestyle. It is one of the basic tools in our toolbox.

Exercise fires up our (ADHD) brains like nature’s drug. It is one of the basic ways we manage our ADHD and related challenges such as Emotional Regulation and Depression.

The increased dopamine produced through exercise can help improve attention and focus in people with challenges related to ADHD. Exercise also produces endorphins to make you feel great – which helps to regulate mood and combat depression.

Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body,

it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.

However, despite knowing the benefits, I am what can easily be referred to as a ‘reluctant’ exerciser. I have never met a burpie I liked. When working out with others, my frequent sarcastic jokes are thinly disguised complaints.

Confession: Sometimes…*GASP*….I don’t even feel like walking our dog Frida.

So, continuing to build in areas I know are working, I looked to fellow ACTIVE FOR LIFE Role Model and Bulletproof lover, Dai Manuel from the WHOLE LIFE FITNESS MANIFESTO for help.

This is the thing: Dai is pretty much all-around AWE-SOME! I have met him and his wife Christie in person – as well as follow them across social media – and their energy and genuine smiles are infectious! You’ll know what I mean when you watch one of their LIVE videos!

They seem like they really do have the healthy and happy thing goin’ on. They incorporate fitness into their lifestyle, including the whole family in their wellness plan.

I want that.

Dai’s program is exactly the kind of simple change to my Fitness routine that I am looking to add to my Back to Basics Plan. The program asks you to commit just 30 minutes a day to yourself and is FREE!

In fact, I am joining the WLFM FREE 28 day NEW YEAR BEST YOU CHALLENGE that just began. The #NewYearBestYou challenge is being fuelled by BULLETPROOF which means anyone who joins will receive Dai’s book FREE as well. Thanks BP360!

Just CLICK images to read more about it + Sign up to join me and the rest of the tribe. I am hoping they will overlook my whining until I can make it a habit.

I am setting 2017 to build strength and endurance. I also want to incorporate more healthy, organic home grown or locally grown fruit and vegetables into our diet. I love gardening and I am aiming for a bountiful garden.

We are trying to get our garden in this year too. Plus each of the kids will have their own mini garden to tend to.

Only a few things on my list for 2017

    1. Live life with intention. 2016 seemed like the year that would never end with both good and bad and it felt like the bad outweighed the good. I’m going to be happier, live healthier, be present and achieve greater in 2017.

    2. From number 1 comes number 2 – live healthier! I’ve committed to removing as much processed food (crackers, cereal etc) from our diets and cook whole nutritious meals not only for me but for our family. Too many quick meals while running between activities has left all of us in a lethargic caloric dense without good nutrition slump! On top of that I’m getting active and renewing my love of fitness which I hope will trickle down to my family.

    3. To be happier (again from number 1) – I’ve let the complexities of life and work bring me down and have lost some of my naturally optimistic nature and that has affected my interactions with my family and friends. I want to be the throw caution to the wind, joyful person again! So far so good!

    4. Again from number 1 – be present! I found that I wasn’t focusing on any one task at a time rather trying to do everything at once resulting in nothing really getting done. I will take it one day at a time and focus on one thing at a time.

    5. I intend to achieve greater in 2017! From decluttering my house to living in the moment and enjoying my family and friends, I will achieve greater! In my relationships, work and play it’s about living life and putting your best foot forward, being optimistic and enjoying all that I have been blessed with.

I love hearing your list for 2017 Nancy! It sounds like you have given great thought to some lifestyle changes you would like to make – many the same basics I have listed in this series. I hope some of the tips and resources listed throughout the Back to Basics series offers you some extra support.

Keep that positivity up – it’s inspiring! Connect on mADDworld FB page too to let me know how you are doing!

I will continue to work out 6 days a week but I also want to ensure I’m drinking 8 cups of water everyday.
